Bradfield chopping board – small

Perfect for chopping apples, serving olives or sharing a creamy lump of burrata, our smaller Bradfield Chopping Board retains its live edge, echoing the Suffolk woodlands in which the timber was grown.

Like all of Hyrst’s homewares, the Bradfield Chopping Board is handcrafted in the workshop at HMP Warren Hill, just down the road from our studio on the Suffolk coast.

The smaller of our two Bradfield Chopping Boards is made from English ash that was grown, harvested and dried at the Suffolk Wildlife Trust’s ancient woodland from which the board takes its name.

Hyrst delivers the beautiful pale ash timber to HMP Warren Hill, a mile or so from our design studio on the Suffolk coast, where it is hand-shaped into chopping boards by prisoners in the woodshop. We pay Warren Hill for the boards; income which is used by the prison to fund training qualifications that will upskill residents in preparation for their release.

Each board is unique; please note that the grain pattern and colour may vary from that shown in the photographs.

All of our food boards are finished with a food-safe wax oil, handmade in the UK from natural oils and pure waxes.

To clean your board, wipe with a damp cloth. Don’t soak it in water, and avoid putting it in the dishwasher. The natural fibres of the timber will fluff slightly after contact with water; over time, the board can be buffed back to a smooth state with a high-grit sandpaper.

Similarly, if the board dries out a little over time, additional coats of food board oil or wax will keep it sweet for years to come.
